Over Your Cities Grass will Grow
Barbara & Art Culver Center for the Arts
Sophie Fiennes' meditative documentary follows the work of painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer in his derelict silk factory art studio. Weaving tunnels and labyrinths connect the factory to the surrounding woodlands, as the multiple acres of the artist's grounds are transformed by the surrounding paintings and sculptures into an artistic project in and of itself. "Fiennes’ film is a mesmerizing spectacle that asserts its own pace, alternating between exploring the work itself and exploring how it is made. If you’re willing to take this voyage with Fiennes into the psychic landscape, it’s a trip you’ll never forget.” - Andrew O’Hehir, Salon. “The camera movements are graceful, almost ethereal, yet the objects themselves - with their impastos of organic and inorganic materials, their metaphoric resonance’s, historical allusions and intimations of war - feel unmistakably weighty." - Manohla Dargis , New York Times.
France , 2010 | Un-rated | 105 minutes
When: November 18 - 19, 2011, Film Screening, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
